Case Study 3:
E.N.i.M.S. Develop Cohesive Business System in Port of Gibraltar
Nature Port Reception Facilities (PRF) Limited, a market leader in port reception facilities and wastewater treatment solutions is on track to augment its business credentials.
E.N.i.M.S. were approached to assist the company in devising a business system which would work in both a time-efficient and cost-effective manner and one which would meet their regulations and standards requirements.

The Project Brief

E.N.i.M.S.' Management Services Division was engaged to devise and implement a streamlined business system which would work in a cost-effective and time-efficient way.
The key objective of the project brief was to implement a management system to ISO 14001:2004

Commitment to Continual Improvement

Nature (PRF) Limited, which operates a greywater, sullage and oil recovery plant in the Port of Gibraltar, took over the former Ministry of Defence facility in 2004. The development of its business has been rapid, combined with a solid commitment to continual improvement by its management team.
Nature PRF's processes involve reception of cleaning and oil wastes from ships' fuel tanks and subsequent separation of oils and waters via stages comprising heat, air and bio-remediation.
Once the wastes have undergone the separation process, recovered oil is stored at the plant pending distribution to Spain for further treatment, and water having been cleansed and treated is discharged back to sea.

International Pollution Prevention and Control Certificate (IPPC Certificate)

Due to the environmental sensitivity of the operation Nature PRF is bound by the stipulations of an International Pollution Prevention and Control Certificate, as well as international and local maritime laws.
Since 2007 Nature PRF has held accreditation to ISO 9001:2000, and as part of their drive for continual improvement, and as a stipulation of their IPPC Certificate, they wanted to implement a management system to ISO 14001:2004, the internationally recognised environmental management system standard.
Streamlined Single Management System

Consultants from E.N.i.M.S. quickly identified that the operation of two stand-alone systems would be an unnecessary drain on resources and suggested the integration of both standards into a streamlined single management system, thereby reducing time, paperwork and auditing hours required.

"The result is that Nature PRF is now on track to have a fully integrated 9001:2008 and 14001:2004 management system which provides real value, demonstrates legal and regulatory compliance and supports achievement of their performance targets."
